Rest in solo part in AsI

Chord in AsI, later version

Unwritten rest in A (→GEFE,EE)

..

At the end of the later version of the orchestral introduction added to AsI, there is also the 1st bar of the solo piano part, which differs in detail from both the final and the original version, written in the main sequence of #ApI. In particular, at the beginning of the bar there is a R.H. crotchet chord, which we cite as evidence of Chopin's hesitation – this chord is present neither in the earlier version of #ApI nor in the latest version, prepared for printing.

g3 in AsI, A & FE1

f3 in GE (→EE,FESB)

..

In GE1 this note was being corrected during the printing process, which is evidenced by the visible – particularly in GE2 – traces of removal of the notehead of g3. Nevertheless, it is uncertain whether the correction was ordered by Chopin – it could have been performed by the reviser – he could have considered the notation of A a mistake. It is also likely that the initially printed g3 was devoid of a ledger line (such mistakes were quite frequent), and the reviser, without consulting the basis, considered the notehead to have been placed too high. Therefore, the authenticity of the version featuring f3 is uncertain; moreover, the fact that g3 was reintroduced into FE1 – undoubtedly by Chopin – proves that the composer eventually opted for g3, even if he were temporarily considering f3.

No repetition in AsI & GE (→FE,EE,FESB)

Repeat in A

..

It is difficult to assume that the removal of the repeat sign for b. 79-95 was not consulted with Chopin. However, the issue is generally obscure, since A is the only source in which the repeat sign was marked – it is absent both in AsI and in the orchestral material GEorch (→FEorch). Therefore, if the repeat signs are not a mistake, at some point Chopin considered expanding the Theme by 16 bars to eventually, after having sent A to the publisher, return to the initial concept.

quavers in A (→GEFE,EE,FESB)

..

The octaves in AsI in b. 112 and at the beginning of b. 116 are probably the initial version, possibly a temporary variant, eventually abandoned by Chopin (the latter could be indicated by the notation with the carelessly written down 8s, probably added later, since the other octaves are written down without abbreviations).
